Greetings Buckhorn Family:
My name is April McCutcheon; when I reflect on my service as principal, of what I consider to be an outstanding school, I already have so many memories. The road has had bumps and challenges along the way, but the rewards have far outweighed the challenges. All of the experiences over the past few years have contributed in some way to doing what is best for our students. As a lifelong resident of Madison County and a Buckhorn alum, I am blessed to work in this incredible and diverse community. Having worked in North Alabama for almost 20 years, life experience has afforded me the background and experience to move Buckhorn Middle School forward, creating a positive, safe, engaging learning environment for students. I have learned that each and every child deserves the best education, the most passionate advocates, and a tight-knit community to become successful and productive citizens.
As a graduate of Lee University and Auburn University, I am grounded in best practices and research for what is best for student achievement. I consider myself a lifelong learner, and I am a positive supporter of student-centered learning. My background includes the last six years as an assistant principal at Buckhorn High School. Prior to that experience, I was a teacher and coach in Madison County and Huntsville City Schools. As a teacher, I had the luxury of teaching a variety of levels, from seventh to twelfth grade. This experience gave me the perfect background to drive Buckhorn Middle forward.
Buckhorn Middle is an amazing school, with a group of individuals that are second to none, students that are ready to learn and support their school, and a community of families that care deeply for our school. Parents are the single, most important influence in the education of their child. It is crucial that we combine our efforts to ensure student success. I look forward to meeting you and talking about your student’s success. My door is always open to you.
All my best,
Buckhorn Middle School
